In Memoriam

On Monday, December 31, 2012, we lost a very dear and special member of the Winters Elementary School family, our wonderful Attendance Secretary, Karen Hill. In memory of Karen, our PTA has dedicated and decorated the sick room at Waggoner to be a reminder of Karen's love and care for all.

About Us

TOGETHER, WE SUCCEED!

At Winters Elementary, our mission is to support all students to be critical thinkers and compassionate citizens. We are committed to to helping students succeed - academically, socially, and emotionally.

Beginning in our Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten programs, we prepare children to be readers, writers and mathematical problem solvers. We challenge all students to meet rigorous grade level standards and do so in developmentally appropriate and supportive ways. Most importantly, we want students to love learning and enjoy coming to school.

Each week, students have the opportunity to actively explore science, technology, engineering, art/agriculture and mathematics in our S.T.E.A.M. Labs, MakerSpaces, and School Gardens. Students also participate in weekly classes where they get to sing, dance, make music!

At Winters Elementary, we use technology as a tool to help students practice skills, explore the world, and become digital citizens. Chromebooks are utilized in all classrooms from TK - 5th grade, and 5th grade students bring chromebooks back-and-forth between school and home.

Additionally, we teach students social-thinking skills and help them develop mindsets for learning, including persistence, resilience, flexibility, empathy, and optimism. Ultimately, we want to empower students with the confidence and competence to pursue their dreams.

All Winters Elementary students benefit from the many parents and community members that support our school. There is an active PTA, School Site Council, English Learner Advisory Committee, and Migrant Parent Group. Community volunteers help "Reach Out and Read" by serving as R.O.A.R Readers and listening to children read on a weekly basis, and high school students serve as Cross Age Tutors. Additionally, community members sponsor a weekly Kids Farmers Market and a monthly Kids Credit Union.

We encourage you to visit and see the many great things that are happening!

We Celebrate Students!

We encourage students to demonstrate the Winters Elementary W.A.V.E. and to: Work hard; Always be kind; Value others; and Expect the best!  We teach lessons that showcase the importance of these traits and recognize students for their hard work and achievement.
